13 Soups

So here's my Thursday Thirteen:

Fall will officially be here Sunday, but weather-wise, I'm sure it's still quite a ways off. Still, I can't help but eagerly anticipate cooler temperatures and the wonderful foods that come along with them.

I've just started planning our menus for a month at a time instead of weekly. Last week, I finished out September's meals and I'm almost finished planning out October's. Even though it probably won't be cold enough in early October, I've started making plans for our weekly soup night. This year it'll be on Wednesday nights. That way I won't have to cook or have much clean-up on Thursdays when Survivor, CSI, and ER are on!

Next month's "soups" include
1. Billy's Prize-Winning Chili
2. Chicken & Dumplings
3. Vegetable Soup
4. Baked Potato Soup
5. Taco Soup

I'll have to work in some other old favorites along with several new ones in the coming months:
6. Tortilla Soup (new)
7. Creamy Mushroom Soup (new)
8. Black Bean and Corn Soup
9. Stuffed Bell Pepper Stoup (new)
10. Red Beans & Rice
11. Chicken Toscana Soup (new)
12. Creamy Tomato Basil Soup (new)
13. Broccoli & Cheese Soup (new)

I might even add a 14th soup this fall/winter: French Onion Soup (new).

The only problem with making so many different soups, especially in the southern part of the US, is by the time you've made each one, the weather's too hot to go around again!

Note: I can't believe I forgot to add Chicken & Sausage Gumbo to my list! I should be ashamed!

Ashley, these soups sound wonderful! I do love making soups and stews when the weather cools off...which I'm sure it will be doing soon.

I didn't get to watch Survivor, and failed to DVR it. Did you? I'll try to catch it next week.

p.s. Could you share your tortilla soup recipe? I'm looking for a really good one.

Cindy:

Thanks for stopping by!

I did watch Survivor and you would've been proud of Leslie. She left a welcoming ceremony in a Buddhist temple because they were having to bow down in front of I-don't-know-how-many Buddha idols. She said that she has a relationship with Jesus Christ and that she won't bow to anything but him. I'm eager to see what will happen next week. Oh, and there was a great moment between her and another tribemate, James (a gravedigger from Louisiana).

I don't have a recipe for Tortilla Soup yet, but I'm searching! I've found one so far that is very easy and has gotten really good reviews. Maybe I'll move it to October and make Taco Soup in November. I'll let you know how it is.

Ginger,

Please share! It sounds great!

Cindy,

My mom said she has a great Chicken Tortilla Soup that she'll forward to me and I can share it with you. She said it's better than Posada's Chicken Tortilla Soup, but I've never had it, so I have no reference point. I like the tortilla soup from On the Border. It's what inspired me to find a recipe to make at home.
